Santorum’s prospects and low approval ratings of Congress

Frank Newport, Editor in Chief of the Gallup Poll, joins NewsWorks Tonight host Dave Heller to discuss what’s on American’s mind this week.

Pennsylvania’s own Rick Santorum suddenly is the man of the hour in Republican circles after his three state win Tuesday night in MO, MN, and CO. Where does he stand nationally, and does he have a shot at the nomination?
This long, drawn out campaign appears to be helping candidates like Santorum because it takes so long for a front-runner like Romney to lock things up. Some say a long campaign keeps the spotlight off of Obama, and that’s good for the GOP, while other say that a long campaign with candidates beating up on one another is not so good for the GOP…..what do Republicans themselves say?
Can it get any lower? Congress approval hits a historic all time low point in Gallup measures….with Democrats and Republicans about equally disgusted. Is this a harbinger of what’s to come at the polls in November?
Also, despite Congress’ horrible job approval rating, there are some signs on the horizon that Americans are becoming a little more positive about the way things are going in this country…
Residents of North Dakota had the highest consumer confidence of any state last year, while Residents of West Virginia had the lowest. But where do PA, NJ and DE come in? Which of these three had the most economically positive residents last year?
