Sandy repairs could snag traffic in Ocean County

Motorists heading to the Jersey shore could face a traffic bottleneck over the memorial Day holiday weekend on the highway damaged by Superstorm Sandy.

Route 35 south will be a single lane between Curtis Point Drive in Brick and Strickland Boulevard in Toms River instead of the normal two lanes.

Transportation Commissioner James Simpson earlier this week had announced all Route 35 travel lanes will be open for the summer. However, DOT officials all the lanes can’t be restored.

Reconstruction work on other sections along the 12½-mile stretch of highway from Bay Head to Berkeley will not resume until Tuesday.

Construction on most sections will be suspended by the end of June and will not resume until after Labor Day.
