Salsa from N.J. peaches to benefit food bank
Thousands of pounds of small and slightly blemished peaches are being turned into salsa to help raise money for the Food Bank of South Jersey.
It’s the second year that South Jersey peach farmers have teamed up with the Camden-based Campbell Soup Co. to produce the Just Peachy-branded salsa.
Last year sales generated nearly $100,000 for the food bank.
More than 52,000 jars are being prepared from the peach seconds, which would have been headed to a landfill if not used for the charitable venture.
The salsa will be available at farmers markets, some Shop-Rites, the Sharrott Winery in Winslow Township and a variety of other shops and stores in the region.
New Jersey is the nation’s fourth-biggest peach growing state.
