Rutgers president says school raised record cash

Rutgers University’s president says the school’s development office raised the most it ever has in any quarter during the first three months of the fiscal year.

MyCentralJersey.com reports that president Robert Barchi told the university’s board Thursday that the school raised $48 million. He says it raised a record $148.4 million last fiscal year.

Barchi told reporters that the school is still at the bottom of Big 10 schools in fundraising and endowment, and that raising money is critically important. Rutgers joined the Big 10 conference this year.

The school’s fundraising goal for this fiscal year is $160 million.
