‘Rutgers Day’ festival draws record-setting crowd

Rutgers officials say a record-setting crowd has turned out to get an up-close look at the university and its many offerings.

An estimated at 83,000 people came out Saturday for the annual “Rutgers Day” festival, an annual outdoor event highlighted by the Scarlet-White intrasquad spring football game.

But there also were hundreds of events and programs sponsored by schools, departments, institutes, centers and student organizations on the university’s campuses in New Brunswick and Piscataway.

Each campus focused on specific topics to showcase student talents and program offerings.

Among the featured events was the New Jersey Folk Festival. This year, that event featured the music and culture of Garifuna, a Central American community that has survived wars, exile and deprivation.
