Rowan student killed after being hit by car

A Rowan University student is dead after officials say he was struck and killed by a motorist near his fraternity house.

Glassboro police say 22-year-old Matthew Uhl of Little Egg Harbor was struck early Friday. University officials say he died Friday afternoon.

Investigators say a Connecticut man who was behind the wheel was still at the scene when they arrived. Police say Derrick Gilliam of Bridgeport, Conn., had an odor of alcohol on his breath and an open bottle of vodka in his vehicle.

Gilliam is being held in the Gloucester County Jail on $25,000 bail on an obstruction of justice charge. Police say additional charges are possible.
