Philadelphia’s Vine Street Expressway, also known as Interstate 676, will go through another round of closures this week.

From 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., the expressway will be closed from Broad Street to the Schuylkill Expressway. It’s all part of a major bridge replacement project, said Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spokesman Gene Blaum.

“It is best to avoid the area. Detour signs will be posted for motorists coming into Philadelphia on I-76 to detour around the closure point,” he said. “And if you are coming westbound on 676 approaching Broad Street, you will be taken off the highway.”

Replacing deficient bridges that go over the sunken roadway began last year.

Near the Free Library of Philadelphia, more of the roadway will be covered, allowing for expanding Shakespeare Park.
