Right, said Fred’s

If you’d told me five years ago that I’d be enjoying a perfectly executed wedge salad with a glass of cold white wine at Fred’s Tavern in Stone Harbor, I’d have laughed you out of the room.

Fred’s was a cavern, all dark wood and black out windows. It was Disney’s Haunted Mansion with a golf video game in the corner.

The golf game is still there, but Fred’s is no longer gloomy. A renovation last year opened up the windows, opened up the space, and made it a place where you can not only order food instead of grabbing pizza from across the street, but order good bar food — and yes, a salad too.

This year, they’ve opened a patio for dining and drinking, too.

I know I have a bent for the nostalgic, and for shore classics that have gone away (R.I.P. Henny’s). But this is a good change. It adds another year round food option to Stone Harbor, and has turned Fred’s into an inviting space for year round residents and visitors alike.
