Right NEast/Wrong NEast: ‘North Juniata,’ need we say more?

The media has been following closely the story of the 15th District Police Officer charged with stealing money from a safe at Pat’s Cafe in Northwood.

Since the city’s three TV news networks have no idea what Northwood is or where it might be, they’ve mostly stuck with calling the Arrott Street and Castor Avenue intersection Frankford [re: Action News and CBS3]. We’ll accept that, given the close ties between the two neighborhoods, and debate about whether Northwood is really just a part of Frankford.

And then Fox29 came along and invented a new neighborhood. NEast Philly readers, we give you…. “North Juniata.”

Needless to say, Northwood and Juniata are different. And, oh yeah, there is no North Juniata.

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast mag wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
