Right NEast/Wrong NEast: Once in Mayfair, always in Mayfair

Remember when someone (or someones) started slashing tires in Mayfair and all the TV news stations dug out their GPS devices and rushed to the Northeast? Of course you do. The slashing have slowed, but cars across the Northeast are still being vandalized.

As recently as April 1, tires were slashed on the 3500-block of Decatur Street. In Holmesburg. But the first slashing happened in Mayfair, and just because a crime pattern changes doesn’t mean the TV stations will react accordingly.

So Action news and CBS3 hustled out to Holmesburg for the lastest scoop. Except Action News pretended to be in Mayfair.

And CBS3 found magical “Decatur Road” that does not seem to exist on any map but the station’s own.

Heads up guys – if you Google “Holmesburg boundaries,” search results turn up links to NEast Philly, the Holmesburg Civic Association and the Mayfair Civic Association all explaining the neighborhood’s area.

Outside media don’t care about the Northeast. We have all seen them misuse, misspell and mistake our neighborhoods and our streets, so we at NEast Philly wanted to do something about it. When they get it wrong, we set it right in a segment we like to call Right NEast/Wrong NEast.
