Report: N.J. Turnpike is nation’s ‘most profitable’ toll road

NJ.com reports that the toll industry newsletter, “Toll Roads News,” has found the New Jersey Turnpike as the most profitable toll road in the nation.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority collected $992 million in tolls in 2012, followed by the Pennsylvania Turnpike at $781 million.

The Garden State Parkway finished sixth on the list with $402 million collected.

However, Turnpike authority spokesman Thomas Fenney told NJ.com the turnpike can not actually be considered profitable once you add in the the $378 million operating expenses and current $7 billion investment program to widen lanes.
