Released prisoner back in jail

Last month, Shamir Robinson was released from Curran-Fromhold Correctional in Holmesburg. Accidentally. The 21-year-old should have returned to the facility Dec. 20 after a judge ordered him to serve time for a robbery charge, but prison officials failed to notice.

The error went unnoticed for two weeks until Robinson appeared in court Monday for other charges. And when asked why he wasn’t still in jail, Robinson someone managed to disappear from the court room. He was arrested and returned to Curran-Fromhold Tuesday night.

This marks the third escape/mistaken release from CFCF. Oscar Alvarado escaped Thanksgiving 2009 and was captured in mid-December of that year. Kevin Turner escaped this past fall and went on to kill Lawncrest jeweler William Glatz.

Philadelphia Prisons Commissioner Lou Giorla visited civic associations near to CFCF late last year to explain how Turner was able to escape.
