Construction is scheduled to start later this year on the 60,000 square foot building that will seat 3,000 moviegoers and feature 14 screens.

The new Regal movie theater is scheduled to open in 2014 as part of the expanded Promenade at Christiana off of I-95 between Route 273 and Route 1.

“Promenade at Christiana is an ideal location for a fantastic entertainment destination,” said Todd Boruff, senior vice president of real estate for Regal Entertainment Group.  “Christiana is a successful retail corridor, and our location is highly convenient allowing patrons to avoid the congestion of mall traffic with a choice of two I-95 exits at Routes 1 and 273.”

This will be the third Regal theater in New Castle County.  The other two are on Route 202 in the Brandywine Town Center and in Glasgow in Peoples Plaza.  The new theater will feature the latest movie projection technology including 3D screens.

The Promenade is adjacent to the Christiana Town Center which is well established with retail stores including Old Navy and Boscovs.

The new complex is being built south of the Christiana Mall at the same time the property surrounding the mall is also being developed with a series of shops that’s being called the Colonnade at Christiana.  That 915,000 square foot shopping plaza on the east side of the mall property is also scheduled to include a movie theater.
