Recertification hearings of Limerick nuclear plant held Thursday

Two public hearings are being held today for the recertification of the Limerick nuclear plant in Lower Pottsgrove.

The Mercury reports the first of two hearings began at 2 p.m. today, with the second scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Sunnybrook Ballroom.

The hearings offer residents the chance to ask questions or voice their opinions about factors that should be considered when the Nuclear Regulatory Commission considers a request to license the plant for another 20 years.

The Mercury says its readers have expressed several factors, including; radiation, jobs, earthquakes and energy policies.
