Reading Terminal Ice Cream Festival marks Bassetts anniversary
We’re halfway through National Ice Cream month, so it’s about time Philadelphia had a festival. This one is special.
Bassetts is celebrating 150 years of ice cream-making in Philadelphia so Reading Terminal Market, where Bassetts has been since 1893, is holding a celebration.
Tastings, eating contests, games and more will take place in Center Court from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the big birthday celebration scheduled for 2 p.m.
Five ice cream vendors will be on hand, and Bassetts will debut its George Washington Sundae. It doesn’t taste like powdered wig and wooden teeth, but instead includes cherry vanilla ice cream with fresh blueberries, walnuts and whipped cream. It coincides with the National Constitution Center’s Discover the Real George Washington” exhibit.
