(Mt. Airy USA has cancelled tonight’s showing of The Princess Bride due to the bad weather. A Severe Thunderstorm warning is in effect till 7:30 p.m.)
Wanted: Meteorologist for fun-loving community development corporation in Mt. Airy. Must like movies, zoning, and rescheduling events.
Mt. Airy USA could use a little help on scheduling its outdoor movies. Princess Bride was the originally scheduled for July 8 at the Garden space of Lovett Library. Unfortunately strong thunderstorms moved in that Friday and the movie was cancelled.
Princess Bride is rescheduled for tonight at 8:30 p.m. for the outside garden at Lovett Libary at 6945 Germantown Ave.
The 1987 flick, featuring a young Mandy Patankin and a very young Fred Savage, tells the decidedly strange and heartwarming tale of Buttercup, her impending marriage to Prince Humperdink and her lover Westley’s quest to rescue her.
The movies is free and open to the public. It’s an effort to draw the community to an under-utilized section of Mt. Airy’s Germantown Ave. corridor. You may want to bring an umbrella just in case.
The National Weather Service says there will be a 60-percent chance for rain Friday evening with some areas receiving heavy amounts of rain.
The forecast for next Friday 8/26/11 also shows there will be a chance for thunderstorms.
I think Mt. Airy USA should show “Singing in the Rain” tonight and tell everyone to bring them umbrellas for the ultimate 4-D experience.
