Prison time, restitution payments for former Temple doctor convicted of fraud

Dr. Joseph J. Kubacki, a former official at Temple University’s School of Medicine, has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison.

He’s also been ordered to pay more than $1 million in restitution for the fraud scheme he was convicted of last summer.
Kubacki was found guilty of 150 counts of health care fraud for billing insurers for patients he hadn’t seen and falsifying patient charts.

The Daily News reports Kubacki said he acted in the best interests of the med schools, which was understaffed and in the red when he became chairman.
