The body of 24-year-old Atiya Perry was found inside the tiny apartment she shared with Haynes when probation agents arrived for a routine check on the suspect.

The back story

Investigators then determined that Perry had been killed on Sept. 9 but wasn’t discovered until a day later. Police believe an argument led to the killing, and took Haynes into custody at the scene.

In 2011, Haynes pleaded guilty to simple assault and was given 18 months probation, according to court records that stated aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person charges were withdrawn.

Seven years earlier, he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and was sentenced to up to 23 months incarceration and two years probation, court records also stated.
