Poultry pardon

    Apple and Cider will live to see another day. The National Thanksgiving Turkey (Apple) and its altenate (Cider) will be pardoned today in the White House’s annual turkey presentation.

    President Barack Obama will pardon the 21-week-old 45-pound turkeys, who were named by California school children.

    But two other local turkeys were not so lucky. Jaindl’s Turkey Farm in Orefield, Pa., have been cooked, dressed and donated ot Obama, who will turn them over to Martha’s Table, an organization that helps feed those in need.
