Potentially historic Center City barbershop becomes center of debate at zoning meeting

Renovations to a historic Center City barbershop became the hot button issue at the Center City Resident Association zoning meeting last Tuesday, the Weekly Press reports.

As representatives of Norman Lerner Real Estate Investments explained plans to add a roof deck and extend the second and third floors of 1513 South St., a neighborhood resident brought to the floor the address’s historic value.Throughout the second half of the 20th century, the site was home to Process Junior’s Barber Shop, which seved as a neighborhood hub where several notable celebrity patrons had their hair cut.

The neighborhood association did not come to a decision by meeting’s end, but asked the concerned resident to take the issue to the Philadelphia Historical Society.
