Potential for rain, wintry mix Sunday into Monday

Forecasters are monitoring an inland system that could deliver a wintry mix and rain Sunday into Monday.

The GFS forecast model indicates the possibility of a wintry mix when precipitation moves through Sunday afternoon, changing over to rain as warmer air invades from south to north, according to the latest forecast discussion from the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, NJ.

As a cold front passes through the region earlier Monday morning, light snow is possible as the system winds down, the service advises.

But the changerover to rain “north and west of Philadelphia seems a little optimistic,” according to the service, citing snow cover and the recent cold temperatures.
