Update: Additional repairs on Winston Road needed in Chestnut Hill

The Philadelphia Water Department told NewsWorks today that construction on Winston Road and Springfield Avenue will likely continue into next week. Yesterday’s story indicated that the work could be finished by the end of this week.

Water Department spokeswoman Laura Copeland stated in an email this morning, “It’s not going to be done today (Wednesday) They found the washout was more expensive. To make sure it’s done right they’re looking at next Wednesday 3/14. That could change. The damage to the street was more expensive.”

For nearly a month drivers have had navigate around construction work at Winston Rd. and Springfield Ave. Water Department spokeswoman Laura Copeland said the project initially was to fix a water main.

But Copeland said earlier what should have been a quick fix soon turned into an ordeal after construction crews discovered damage to the storm sewer.

Last week, several wooden boards covered a 20-foot hole at the intersection, Copeland said.

Winston rd. was closed from East Benezet St. to Springfield Rd. for part of Tuesday but had been re-open in the evening. But residents should expect additional work for the next week.
