Poll finds Pennsylvania baseball fans prefer the Phillies over the Pirates
We probably didn’t need a poll to tell us Pennsylvanians prefer the Phillies to the Pirates. But it doesn’t hurt to have our suspicions confirmed.
A poll conducted by Quinnipiac University found the Commonwealth’s baseball fans much prefer the Phils. Allegheny County was the only place where the Pirates proved most-loved. More than three-quarters of fans there are Pirates fans.
Philadelphia proved loyal to the Phils, naturally, as did Central Pennsylvania where 50 percent prefer the Phillies and only 13 call themselves Pirates fans.
Those who aren’t crazy for the Pirates noted loyalties to the Mets, Yankees, Cardinals and a few others.
More than 1,400 people were polled over a five-day period, and even the fact that the Pirates have won more of the 2,000 match-ups with the Phils doesn’t shake fans’ spirits.
