Police search for suspect in Lakewood cop slaying

Police continue to search for a suspect recently identified in the shooting of Lakewood police officer Christopher Matlosz near the Jersey Shore.

Friday afternoon Matlosz, 27, questioned a pedestrian from his patrol car in a routine stop when the pedestrian fired three shots at the officer. The four-year veteran of the police force died shortly after the shooting.

Marlene Lynch Ford, Ocean County Prosecutor, referred to the shooting as an “execution style killing” and Attorney General Paula Dow promised “the suspect responsible for this horrific act will be apprehended and brought to justice,” reported the Associated Press.
