Police presence

Atlantic City will reinstate 17 laid-off police officers following an agreement by the department for existing officers to take a $410 pay cut.

The Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local 24 voted to approve the pay cut as part of a plan that could also bring an addition 30 laid-officers back if more concessions are offered, the Press of Atlantic City reports.

The city will add $1 million to the police budget, which will help cover the reinstated officers’ salaries. All told, the city now has 300 pollice officers.
