Police, firefighters taking design submissions for new memorial

Franklin Square’s Living Flame memorial is getting a bit old.

Dedicated in 1976 and created with recycled materials, the police and fire memorial is due to be replaced. Designs are currently being accepted for a new piece to honor those who’ve died in the line of duty.

The Philadelphia Business Journal reports a group made up of members from Local 22, FOP Lodge 5 and Historic Philadelphia, Inc. are leading the effort with advising from the Philadelphia chapter of the American Institute of Architects and Anthony Bracali of Friday Architects to help determine how much the memorial will cost and how much fundraising needs to be done.

    Submissions are due Nov. 1.
