Police, community members team up to ‘bike for peace’ in Northwest Philly [photos]

About 20 cyclists — community members and police officers — hopped onto their bikes for a joint ride through Northwest Philadelphia on Saturday morning.

“We are looking for engagement with the community,” said Anthony Murphy, executive director of Town Watch Integrated Services, the group that put on the event.

The event was sponsored by local elected officials, Town Watch Integrated Services and the 5th,14th, 35th and 39th Police Districts.

The ride kicked off at Lonnie Young Recreation Center on E. Chelten Avenue and headed towards Roxborough and East Falls.

Riders peddled for two hours. Watching from the sidewalks, porches and front yards local residents smiled and waved as bikers rolled by.
