Police, Coast Guard begin boat safety awarness weekend

It’s Operation Dry Water weekend around the country, and the Philadelphia Police are ready.

Today through Sunday, police will partner with the U.S. Coast Guard, New Jersey State Police and the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission to patrol the region’s waters and draw attention to BUI incidents.

The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators holds the event ahead of the Fourth of July holiday each year to raise awareness of Boating Under the Influence.

According to a release posted to the Police Department’s website, BUI is the “leading contributing factor in fatal boating accidents.”
