Suspect arrested in connection with robberies at Germantown car-rental business, hair salon

Philadelphia Police now say last week’s robberies at a Chelten Avenue car-rental business and a Germantown Avenue hair salon were related and have arrested a 44-year-old man in connection with both.

Michael Lewis was charged with seven robberies and one burglary occurring in the Northwest, Southwest and East Divisions.

In the Dec. 12 robbery at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, 217 W. Chelten Ave., Lewis allegedly wielded a knife and made off with $43 in cash. Two days later at Dominican High Explosion Hair Salon, 6100 Germantown Ave., Lewis allegedly attempted to rob a salon employee and stabbed him in the upper arm in the process.

Police said that Lewis, who was later found hiding in bushes near the crime scene, will be charged with robbery, aggravated assault and related offenses.
