Philly’s Foxwoods casino license in limbo

The Philadelphia casino license formerly held by Foxwoods is in limbo now that it appears lawmakers won’t decide the future of the license anytime soon.

The state House passed a bill this month that would eliminate the requirement that the Foxwoods license remain in Philadelphia and open it up to statewide competition.

KYW-AM reports that Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi says there will be no action on the House bill before summer recess.

As to how the gaming board should proceed, Pileggi points to existing law that designates the license for Philadelphia. But the board had indicated it would wait for legislative action before going ahead.

As to whether it will continue waiting, a board spokesman says members will likely discuss it when they meet in the near future.
