Philly ranked 13th greenest city in North America

Good news for Philly and the East Coast: we’re catching up with the West Coast cities in our eco-friendly efforts.

So says Siemens Corp. and the Economist Intelligence Unit, which conducted a survey of the greenest cities in North America.

Of the large cities in America and Canada, Philadelphia ranks 13. That’s about right in the middle of the list of 27 cities, and ahead of West Coast city Sacramento.

The rankings are based on 31 indicators, including water and air quality. The usual suspects made the top of the list: San Francisco, New York and Seattle. But Pittsburgh also made the list, giving Pennsylvania two of the 27 spots.
