In a holiday gesture to show their appreciation of the community that has supported their careers, two world champion fighters will host back-to-back turkey giveaways just ahead of Thanksgiving.

There’s nothing like being a boxer from Philly. Sure, Rocky may be the one that cinema remembers, but it’s the guys from the neighborhoods that made it big that will always hold the real love of the people.

IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion, Bernard ‘The Alien’ Hopkins, and Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Danny ‘Swift’ Garcia will team up to give back to their communities with free turkeys for the holiday.

The first of two events will be held on Mon., Nov. 25, at 2 p.m. at the Red Cross House at 4000 Powelton Ave. where turkeys will be distributed to those in attendance. The second is slated for Tues., Nov. 26, at 10 a.m. at the Spring Garden Wash & Lube, 1111 Spring Garden.

Hopkins defended his heavyweight title in his most recent win by decision in October. Though Hopkins’ years as ‘The Executioner’ are through, his championship wins continue as ‘The Alien.’ At 48, Hopkins is currently the oldest champion in boxing history, taking the status from George Forman earlier this year.

Garcia, a Philly native, made his hometown known following a big win during a high-profile Mayweather undercard bout in Las Vegas this past September.

“If you can make it out of Philadelphia, you can make it out of anywhere,” said Garcia after going 12 rounds with an Argentinean knockout artist.

It was a great fight. And with those words, Garcia cemented his place in the hearts of Philly fight fans.
