Phillies & Tastykakes

I’ve been excoriated numerous times for outing myself earlier in this post as a Philadelphian who can barely handle eating a Tastykake. I’ve even been warned by some very nice folks to stop touting my irreverant disposition because nothing good can ever come of it.

Believe me, I’ve tried to remain silent in the face of the news that Tastykakes will be made available for sale at Citizens Bank Park this baseball season. But as Andy Griffith used to say during his comedy routine, “I got the cain’t heppits.” I must speak.

However, I vow not to put down Tastykakes. Instead I plan on trying them again. Only this time in the way that I’m told that most people injest — pardon me — enjoy them: Refrigerated.

During visits to the ballpark, I usually have a hotdog, maybe some peanuts and definitely a beer.

But now when I see the Phillies play, I’ll also devour at least one Kandy Kake, Butterscotch Krimpet, chocolate cupcake or coffee cake. Heck, maybe I’ll have two.

The vendor, Aramark, won’t divulge the prices of Tastykakes before the season starts. Doesn’t matter because no price will deter me from their blood-sugar-level-raising goodness.

Here’s hoping the Phillies have a perfect season at home, especially no losses to such lowly losers as The Mets, The Marlins or The Pirates. I’d hate to have to walk to the Broad St. station and ride a packed train with a bunch of angry Phillies fans full of beer and Tastykakes.
