Philadelphia’s gas average reaches a 30-month high

A gallon of regular self-service gas hit $3.66 overnight. That’s a 30-month high for Philadelphia-area residents, and the national average is climbing, too.

Philadelphia’s gas prices went up 9 cents this week and 17 cents in the last month. National rates are a bit higher, and a gallon of regular costs about $3.69.

AAA-Mid-Atlantic contributes the escalating prices to Middle East and North African countries that export oil, and to the disaster in Japan. Analysts say prices could get as high as $3.75 this spring.

So how ’bout them electric cars?
