Philadelphians asked to check on elderly during heat wave

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter is asking people to check on the sick and the elderly during the oppressive heat. He said some people may not think clearly when the temperature approaches the century mark.

“Some in Philadelphia think if you close all the windows in your house, you will somehow block out all the heat,” Nutter said. “That’s basically impossible. It cuts down on the circulation and you can suffocate and die.”

There is a help-line for those who need assistance. To reach the heat line, call (215) 765-9040
