Later this year, Philadelphia will host a major gathering for high-achieving young people.

Philadelphia and Forbes Magazine will co-sponsor the first ever Under 30 Summit here in October. Randall Lane, editor of the business magazine, says he believes those being honored will be running the country for the next 50 years.

“Every member of the 30 under 30 which now numbers over 1,000 strong has been hand-selected by our judging committee which includes Steve Case judging technology, Michael Eisner judging entertainment, Isaac Mizrahi style and design and so on,” said Lane.

Mayor Michael Nutter says it’s a great honor to host the event.

“There are a ton of companies corporate entities in particular who will want to be associated with this particular event as a sponsor,” Nutter said. “There will be all kinds of events and activities, the main activities will be at the Convention Center but there will be other venues all over the city.”

The event will include a music festival with under-30 bands and a food event featuring young chefs.
