The Philadelphia region has gotten a major federal energy grant.

The $25-million grant is part of nearly a half billion dollars made available nationally to help retrofit homes and businesses to make them more energy efficient.

Mayor Michael Nutter says the award is the result of a regional effort, leaders from the region – including Bucks, Chester, Montgomery, and Delaware counties – prepared the grant application.

    Nutter:
This is something that came up as part of our metropolitan caucus which I worked on and encouraged fellow county leaders to support. It also demonstrates the partnership that we have in Southeast Pennsylvania.

The mayor says grant money will be made available region-wide to button up homes and businesses. There is no breakdown at this point about how the money will be shared.
