Philadelphia property assessors knocking on doors

In its efforts to tax properties based on actual value, the City of Philadelphia may drop by your home for a visit.

Property assessors are out and about checking out homes and peeking inside to get a sense of what your house has to offer that your neighbor’s might not.

NewsWorks partner PlanPhilly reports assessors are targeting neighborhoods where houses vary, and though the goal is to branch out as much as possible, cookie-cutter neighborhoods won’t be getting as much attention. About 2,000 home visits have already been conducted by the 50 assessors. The number of assessors is slated to double.

The whole process is something new and is a way for the city to determine the actual value of a property and tax owners accordingly.
