Philadelphia Police identify victim of Friday night fatal shooting in Germantown

A man who was shot and killed on West Rockland Street in Germantown late Friday night has been identified as Bryan Jones, who lived on that block.

Officer Christine O’Brien, a department spokeswoman, said Jones and another man were on the victim’s porch when two unknown black men approached and opened fire.

Jones was struck at 11:36 p.m. and rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was declared dead at 11:59 p.m.

One witness said “there were a lot of bullets really fast,” leading neighbors to think an automatic weapon was used to fire shots at 62 W. Rockland St.

O’Brien said Monday afternoon that police have no description of the shooters and no details on what led to the shooting.

NewsWorks will follow-up with a story from the block about which much has been written in light of urban-reclamation efforts there.
