Philadelphia appoints first Chief Innovation Officer

Adel Ebeid admits he doesn’t know much about Philadelphia, but let’s hope he knows plenty about technology, because he’ll be formally announced today as the city’s new chief innovation officer.

He comes to us from Jersey, and will replace interim CIO Tommy Jones, who took over when Allan Frank announced last fall he’d leave the post.

“If you want to do business with Philadelphia online, we need to offer the same or even better value [from the past] at a lower unit cost to the taxpayer. That’s what I need to do,” Ebeid said of his priorities during an interview with Technically Philly.

Experience aside, Ebeid is a win for Philly in that we sort of took him from Jersey. After years in government there, Ebeid was the only cabinet-level leader Gov. Chris Christie allowed to stay on.
