Phila mayor says snow removal efforts in high gear

    The city of Philadelphia is dealing with the latest winter weather the best it can.
    Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter is complimenting both city workers and residents for pitching in to help clear streets and sidewalks so people can move around in the storm.

    Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter is complimenting both city workers and residents for pitching in to help clear streets and sidewalks so people can move around in the storm.

    Nutter: Our men and women in the Philadelphia Streets department, police department, fire EMS and all other snow-fighting personnel are doing a tremendous job.  We have 460 pieces of equipment 600 personnel all citywide fighting this storm finishing up storm cleanup from the weekend and kicking right back into gear for this storm.

    While the city is urging most people to stay off the streets, anyone can use them. but Mayor Nutter says, he does have the option to ban all traffic except emergency personel but at this time there is no plan to do that.

    There are no plans to close down the city streets to emergency personnel, but the mayor says that will be reviewed as the storm continues.  The mayor is urging people who do not have to go out to stay inside until the storm cleanup is complete.
