PGW releases statement on gas explosion

Philadelphia Gas Works has released a statement in response to last night’s gas man explosion in Tacony. Three PGW workers remain hospitalized, and one has died.

“On behalf of PGW’s officers and the entire PGW family, we extend our sincerest condolences and our continuing support to those involved in this tragic incident. Support services are being made available for all employees at PGW’s Corporate Headquarters,” the release states.

The explosion occurred around 8:30 last night, after calls from the 6900-block of Torresdale Avenue reported a gas odor.

PGW reports most residents near the explosion site have service, and the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
