Pennsylvania opts to develop a state-based health insurance exchange

Pennsylvania will develop a state-based health insurance exchange, rather than having the federal government run the exchange, Health & Science reporter Taunya English tells us.

News released today from the Pennsylvania Insurance Department explains two key steps for such development:

Apply for a federal grant while maintaining state insurance regulation
Work with the General Assembly to create legislation to aid the creation of a state exchange

The decision to go with a state exchange was based partly on consumer and small business feedback in online surveys.
