Pa. AG Kane in court in perjury, obstruction case
Attorney General Kathleen Kane will find herself at the defense table at her preliminary hearing on charges she leaked grand jury material and lied about it.
Kane’s hearing is set for 1 p.m. Monday in Norristown, Montgomery County. It’s expected to wrap up the same day.
Defense lawyer Gerald Shargel says few cases are thrown out at the preliminary level. But he still expects it to be an important day as he cross-examines state witnesses.
Kane has vowed to stay in office even as Gov. Tom Wolf and other fellow Democrats call on her to step down.
The affidavit accuses Kane of declaring “war” on rival prosecutors who left her office and leaking secret material to the press to embarrass them.
She faces perjury, obstruction, conspiracy and other charges.
