Party Like it’s 1999

One thing you can say – Ed Rendell knows how to throw a party. To thank supporters, contributors and friends as he finishes two terms as governor, he’s throwing a Jan. 2 bash at Electric Factory with the Beach Boys – or at least what’s left of them.

Actually, only one original surfer singer is in the band’s latest incarnation. That’s Mike Love, still in a Hawaiian shirt at 69. We saw the invite posted on Philebrity, and confirmed it’s a genuine Rendell-ebration.

It’s a little different from the bash Rendell and friends threw when he was leaving city hall in 1999 after two terms as mayor. The headliner then was President Bill Clinton, and it was a major league fundraiser.

Then Rendell was chairman of the Democratic National Committee and headed for a gubernatorial bid. Now he’s writing a book and looking for paid TV pundit gigs.
