Parents up against deadline for school placement

It’s not just teachers waiting to find out where they’ll be this fall as the School District of Philadelphia readies for the first day of the 2011-12 school year.

Some students are still without a desk.

Like Gen Hutson’s daughter, who will start high school this fall. Hutson’s search led her to Hope Charter School in West Oak Lane, as she explained to NewsWorks’ Aaron Moselle. The small class sizes and tailored tracking plans appeal to the mother, as it does to Tanya Johnson, who needs a place for her daughter as well.

The clock is ticking; school starts Sept. 6.
