Parents sue for right to treat son without surgery

The parents of a Chichester teenager have filed a suit against Jefferson Hospital to be able to treat their son’s wrestling injury as they see fit — without surgery. Delaware County Child and Family Services says the teen needs the procedure.

Injuries 16-year-old Mazeratti Mitchell sustained during a wrestling match Tuesday left him unable to feel or move his body. His parents want to treat him with reflexology and spine manipulation, as NBC10 reports.

They’ll appear in court Monday — the day doctors want to perform surgery — to argue that they should be able to treat their son with the remedies they deem fit.

Haven’t these people heard of the Schaibles? The couple received 10 years’ probation for praying for the recovery of their sick child when a jury agreed the best interest of their toddler trumped the couple’s approach to health care.
