Heavy traffic is impacting Route 72 and the causeway heading into Long Beach Island this morning due to emergency construction.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced yesterday repairs to a collapsed pipe in the Route 72 eastbound lanes in Ship Bottom, requiring opening the roadway to replace the drainage pipe.

A traffic shift is currently in place to accommodate the work.

In an alert issued shortly after 9:30 a.m., the Long Beach Township Police Department advised of heavy delays on the Route 72 eastbound lanes near Shore Avenue due to the construction and a “subsequent water main break.”
