Pa. paying $13K a month for governor’s Philadelphia office

Gov. Tom Wolf is looking to reduce or eliminate the cost of a Philadelphia office space lease that costs taxpayers $13,000 per month.

A spokesman for the recently sworn-in Democrat tells Tuesday’s Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Wolf wants to move from the 11th floor Bellevue hotel office to a more accessible and affordable location.

But, the newspaper reports, the lease runs until 2019 and Wolf’s predecessor, Tom Corbett, had trouble getting out of it.

The governor’s office has used the Philadelphia location for at least a decade.

Former Gov. Ed Rendell, who extended the lease during his term, tells the newspaper the $157,632 annual cost is “not unusual for Philadelphia.”

The office has space for the governor’s economic development team, the Office of General Counsel and Lt. Gov. Mike Stack.
