UPDATE: At 4:00 p.m., JCP&L has restored power to the vast majority of those without power earlier, and at least one lane is open on all connecting roadways, according to 511nj.org.

Over a thousand are without power following a crash at a busy intersection in Brick this afternoon.

The crash, at intersection of Route 70 and Route 88, involves at least two vehicles, according to emergency radio transmissions.

A garbage truck reportedly took down utility poles and power lines.

All lanes at the intersection are closed, according to 511nj.org. Brick police say detours are in place and that roadway closures could last “several hours.”

It was not immediately known if there are any injuries.

According to JCP&L, over 1,300 customers are without power as of 2:30 p.m. The utility expects restoration by 4:30 p.m. today.

    This is a developing story.
